Student Health Council

Student Health Council

The JMS Student Health Council was started in 2003 when advisors Greg Potter and Viki Williams saw a need for this type of organization for students at this age. The Student Health Council follows the Health Triangle: Physical Health, Mental and Emotional Health, and Social Health.

The Jackson Middle School Student Health Council is a group of students in grades 6,7, and 8 that meet to promote good health and positive lifestyles. Over the Years they have raised over 25,000 dollars and such things as the LED sign at the Middle School.

They have also purchased equipment for the Physical Education classes and other things in the school that all students can take advantage of.

-The Students have been busy launching a new fundraiser, Schwans-Cares that is home delivery and meets fundraising goals as well as promoting healthy eating.

-The Health Council recently participated in the "Feed My Starving Children" event held at the Methodist Church. This event brought lots of people together in the community and showed what a little bit of hard work can do to feed 225,000 people.

-Health Council members were on hand to meet and greet teachers and employees of Jackson City Schools at Well-O-Ween at Jackson High School and they were very eager to help in any way and at the end of the evening they helped vendors remove their belongings and then put the room back in order.

-One of the biggest events that these kids take pride on is "Pennies for Patients". A collection of pennies is collected for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Health Council has been recognized many times for the fine job they do to raise money for this world wide cause.
